Your uploaded design files are your confidential intellectual property. This page explains exactly what we collect, how long we keep it, who else sees any of it, and how to get it deleted.

1. What we collect

  • Account information — name and email, via our authentication provider
  • The design files you upload — .kicad_sch, .kicad_pcb, and related project files
  • Payment information — handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card number
  • Technical and usage logs — requests, errors, and timing needed to run and debug the service

2. Your design files are confidential

Your uploaded design files are your confidential intellectual property. We use them only to run your preflight check and, if you order manufacturing, to build your factory package. We do not use your design files to train any model, ours or a third party’s.

3. Retention

WhatHow long
Uploaded files not attached to a paid release30 days, then deleted
Release packages tied to a paid order24 months
File hashes (not the files themselves)7 years — warranty and dispute records

4. Deletion

Email [email protected]with your account email and product name to request deletion of your uploaded files before the retention windows above. We’ll confirm once it’s done. Some records — file hashes, payment records, and support correspondence — are retained regardless, for legal and dispute-evidence reasons.

5. AI advisory review — what goes to Anthropic

Disclosure

Some checks include an AI advisory layer. When that layer runs, we send Anthropic (the company behind Claude) a derived facts summary— a structured extract of parsed component references, nets, and rule-violation data.

We never send Anthropic your raw KiCad files, schematics, or board layouts.

Anthropic’s advisory notes are informational only: they never gate your release verdict, and per Anthropic’s standard API terms, data sent to their API is not used to train their models.

6. No training on your data

We do not use your uploaded design files, the derived facts summaries sent for advisory review, or any other customer content to train our own models or any third party’s.

7. Subprocessors

Services that may process your data on our behalf:

  • Anthropic — AI advisory review (derived facts summary only, never raw design files)
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Supabase — database hosting
  • MinIO (self-hosted, ionos) — design file and artifact storage
  • MacroFab — manufacturing, only if and when you place a factory order

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to your design files and account data is limited to the services listed above and to the infrastructure that runs MakeIRL — not to individual staff browsing freely.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
